How it works
A day has 1,440 minutes, so C2/1440 is the length as a fraction of a day. Adding it to the start time gives the end time: 10:30 AM plus 90 minutes is 12:00 PM.
=B2+C2/1440Result0.40625
B29:00 AMThe value in B2.
C245The value in C2.
C2/14400.03125The / operator divides.
B2+C2/14400.40625The + operator adds.
In Google Sheets
The same formula works in Google Sheets: =B2+C2/1440. We ran it in Google Sheets mode on the same data and it returns the same results.
Other ways to do it
Each one was run on the same example sheet.
| Formula | Result | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| =B2+C2/24/60 | 9:45 AM, 12:00 PM, 1:35 PM… | The same, dividing by 24 and then 60. |
| =MOD(B2+C2/1440,1) | 9:45 AM, 12:00 PM, 1:35 PM…Different result | Keeps a pure time of day when the end passes midnight. Drops the day after midnight. |
Common mistakes
=B2+C2adds C2 days, not minutes.- Past midnight the result is more than 1, a time on the next day. Format it as h:mm to show the clock time, or use MOD(…,1).
Try it yourself
Same data, empty answer cell. Your formula is graded instantly, then re-checked on changed data, so a typed-in number won't pass.
