The formula is already in D2, filled down to D6. Change any input and the result updates, or edit the formula to experiment.
How it works
A date is a whole number and a time is a fraction of a day, so adding them gives one value with both: March 2, 2026 plus 9:30 AM. Give the result a date and time format.
=B2+C2Result46083.39583
B23/2/2026The value in B2.
C29:30 AMThe value in C2.
B2+C246083.39583The + operator adds.
In Google Sheets
The same formula works in Google Sheets: =B2+C2. We ran it in Google Sheets mode on the same data and it returns the same results.
Other ways to do it
Each one was run on the same example sheet.
| Formula | Result | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| =INT(B2)+MOD(C2,1) | 3/2/2026 9:30, 3/5/2026 14:15, 3/9/2026 8:00…Different result | Safer when the date column has stray times or the time column has dates attached. Differs only when a cell holds more than its part. |
| =TEXT(B2,"m/d/yyyy")&" "&TEXT(C2,"h:mm AM/PM") | 3/2/2026 9:30 AM, 3/5/2026 2:15 PM, 3/9/2026 8:00 AM…Different result | Text, for a label. Text. |
Common mistakes
- Joining with & gives text, not a date-time you can calculate with.
- If either part is text, convert it first:
=DATEVALUE(B2)+TIMEVALUE(C2).
Try it yourself
Same data, empty answer cell. Your formula is graded instantly, then re-checked on changed data, so a typed-in number won't pass.
