How to sum values by date in Excel
Formula (Excel and Google Sheets)
=SUMIF($A$2:$A$9,E2,$C$2:$C$9)List each date once and use SUMIF against the date column: =SUMIF($A$2:$A$9,E2,$C$2:$C$9), filled down.

The formula is already in F2, filled down to F4. Change any input and the result updates, or edit the formula to experiment.
How it works
Dates are whole numbers underneath, so SUMIF can match a date exactly like any other value. Each row of the summary adds every order with that date, in any order in the list. The $ signs keep the data ranges in place while E2 moves down.

In Google Sheets
The same formula works in Google Sheets: =SUMIF($A$2:$A$9,E2,$C$2:$C$9). We ran it in Google Sheets mode on the same data and it returns the same results.
Other ways to do it
Each one was run on the same example sheet.
| Formula | Result | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| =SUMIFS($C$2:$C$9,$A$2:$A$9,E2) | $276.75, $287.80, $583.40 | SUMIFS puts the sum range first, ready for more conditions such as a region. |
Common mistakes
- If the dates include times (4/6/2026 9:15), no row equals the plain date and the total is 0. Use a one-day window:
=SUMIFS($C$2:$C$9,$A$2:$A$9,">="&E2,$A$2:$A$9,"<"&E2+1). - Dates imported as text don't match real dates. Check that both columns are right-aligned or use DATEVALUE.
Try it yourself
Same data, empty answer cell. Your formula is graded instantly, then re-checked on changed data, so a typed-in number won't pass.
Sum values by date
F2, total the orders placed on the date in E2, then fill down to F4.Questions
How do I list each date once automatically?
In Excel 365 or Google Sheets: =SORT(UNIQUE(A2:A9)), then point SUMIF at the spilled list.
How do I sum the dates in one week or month?
Use a date window with SUMIFS; see summing by week and by month.
