How it works
Water freezes at 32 °F and 0 °C, so subtract 32 first; then each Fahrenheit degree is 5/9 of a Celsius degree. 107 °F is 75 degrees above freezing, and 75 × 5/9 ≈ 41.7 °C. The parentheses make sure the subtraction happens before the multiplication.

In Google Sheets
The same formula works in Google Sheets: =(B2-32)*5/9. We ran it in Google Sheets mode on the same data and it returns the same results.
Other ways to do it
Each one was run on the same example sheet.
| Formula | Result | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| =(B2-32)/1.8 | 41.7, 28.9, 22.2… | Dividing by 1.8 is the same as multiplying by 5/9. |
Common mistakes
=B2-32*5/9without parentheses subtracts 17.8 from B2, which is wrong for every temperature.- CONVERT's unit codes are case-sensitive: "F" and "C" work, "f" and "c" return #N/A.
