How to sum values between two dates in Excel
Formula (Excel and Google Sheets)
=SUMIFS(D2:D11,A2:A11,">="&G1,A2:A11,"<="&G2)Use SUMIFS with two date conditions on the same column: =SUMIFS(sum_range, dates, ">="&start, dates, "<="&end).
- Result on the example
- $4,495 in
G3 - Works in
- Every current version
- Google Sheets
- Same formula

The formula is already in G3. Change any input and the result updates, or edit the formula to experiment.
How it works
Two conditions on the date column make a window: on or after G1 and on or before G2. The operators are text, so they go in quotes and & joins each one to its date cell.
=SUMIFS(D2:D11,A2:A11,">="&G1,A2:A11,"<="&G2)Result4495
D2:D1110 rows × 1 col: $1,840, $420, $395, $1,720, …A range: 10 cells in one column.
A2:A1110 rows × 1 col: 1/5/2026, 1/11/2026, 1/19/2026, 2/2/2026, …A range: 10 cells in one column.
G12/1/2026The value in G1.
">="&G1">=46054"The & operator joins as text.
G22/28/2026The value in G2.
"<="&G2"<=46081"The & operator joins as text.
SUMIFS(D2:D11,A2:A11,">="&G1,A2:A11,"<="&G2)4495SUMIFS: Adds values that meet every condition.- sum_range

A2:A1110 rows × 1 col: 1/5/2026, 1/11/2026, 1/19/2026, 2/2/2026, … - criteria1
">="&G1">=46054" - criteria_range2

In Google Sheets
The same formula works in Google Sheets: =SUMIFS(D2:D11,A2:A11,">="&G1,A2:A11,"<="&G2). We ran it in Google Sheets mode on the same data and it returns $4,495.
Other ways to do it
Each one was run on the same example sheet.
| Formula | Result | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| =SUMPRODUCT((A2:A11>=G1)*(A2:A11<=G2)*D2:D11) | $4,495 | Works in every version and takes any extra condition you can write as a test. |
Common mistakes
- Dates typed into the criteria as text, like
">=2/1/2026", depend on regional date settings. Keep dates in cells. - If the dates include times, use
"<"&G2+1for the end so the whole last day is included.
Try it yourself
Same data, empty answer cell. Your formula is graded instantly, then re-checked on changed data, so a typed-in number won't pass.
Sum values between two dates
G3, total the sales dated from G1 to G2, both days included.Questions
How do I sum by month?
Put the first day of the month in G1 and use "<="&EOMONTH(G1,0) as the end condition.
How do I add a region condition too?
Add a pair: =SUMIFS(D2:D11,A2:A11,">="&G1,A2:A11,"<="&G2,B2:B11,"West").
