AND function
AND returns TRUE only when every condition you give it is TRUE. On its own it just answers TRUE or FALSE, so it is usually the test inside an IF: approve an order only if it is paid and in stock, or invite a candidate only if the score and the references both clear the bar.

- Returns
- TRUE if every argument is TRUE, FALSE if any one is FALSE.

- Works the same way in Google Sheets.
Syntax
=AND(logical1, [logical2], ...)
| Argument | Required? | What it is |
|---|---|---|
logical1 | Required | The first condition, such as B2>=80. |
logical2 | Optional | More conditions, up to 255 in total. |
Examples
Each result below is calculated from the sample sheet by our formula engine, the same one that grades the practice.
| Cell | Formula | Result | What it shows |
|---|---|---|---|
| D2 | =AND(B2>=80,C2>=2) | TRUE | Both conditions are met, so TRUE |
| D3 | =AND(B3>=80,C3>=2) | FALSE | One condition fails, so the whole result is FALSE |
| D4 | =IF(AND(B4>=70,C4>=2),"Interview","Decline") | Interview | Inside IF to return a label |

Promotion eligibility
D2, show Yes if the rating is at least 4 and tenure is at least 2 years, otherwise No. Fill down to D7.Common mistakes
| What you see | Why, and how to fix it |
|---|---|
| Using AND for "either" rules | AND needs every condition to be TRUE. If any one condition should be enough, use OR. |
| Writing a between test the math way | =AND(10<B2<20) doesn't work. Give each comparison its own argument: =AND(B2>10,B2<20). |
| #NAME? | Text conditions need quotes: AND(C2="Paid",D2="Shipped"). |
Tips
- To apply AND across many rows at once, such as inside SUMPRODUCT or FILTER, multiply the conditions instead: (B2:B9>=80)*(C2:C9>=2).
Questions
How do I use IF with AND?
Make AND the first argument of IF: =IF(AND(B2>=80,C2>=2),"Yes","No"). Both conditions must be TRUE to get "Yes".
How do I check if a number is between two values?
Use AND with two comparisons: =AND(B2>=10,B2<=20).
