## What it does

NETWORKDAYS.INTL counts the working days between two dates, like NETWORKDAYS, but lets you say which days are the weekend: Friday and Saturday, Sunday only, or any pattern written as a seven-character string such as "0000011". Use it for teams, countries or shifts that don't work Monday to Friday.

## Syntax

`=NETWORKDAYS.INTL(start_date, end_date, [weekend], [holidays])`

| Argument | Required? | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| `start_date` | Required | The first day of the period. |
| `end_date` | Required | The last day. Both count when they are working days. |
| `weekend` | Optional | Optional: a code (1 Saturday–Sunday, 7 Friday–Saturday, 11 Sunday only, 17 Saturday only…) or seven 0s and 1s from Monday to Sunday, 1 for days off. |
| `holidays` | Optional | Optional: a range of dates to skip. |

## Examples

Each result was calculated by running the formula on the sample sheet.

| Cell | Formula | Result | What it shows |
|---|---|---|---|
| E2 | `=NETWORKDAYS.INTL(A2,B2)` | 22 | Monday to Friday in March 2026: 22 |
| E3 | `=NETWORKDAYS.INTL(A2,B2,7)` | 23 | Sunday to Thursday, with Friday and Saturday off: 23 |
| E4 | `=NETWORKDAYS.INTL(A2,B2,"0000011",C2)` | 21 | Saturday and Sunday off, written as a string, minus the holiday: 21 |

### The sample sheet

Every formula above runs on this data:

| | A | B | C | D | E |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Start | End | Holiday | | Result |
| 2 | 3/1/2026 | 3/31/2026 | 3/20/2026 | | 22 |
| 3 | | | | | 23 |
| 4 | | | | | 21 |

## Common mistakes

| What you see | Why, and how to fix it |
|---|---|
| #VALUE! | The weekend string isn't seven characters of 0 and 1, or every day is marked as weekend. |
| #NUM! | The weekend code isn't one of 1–7 or 11–17. |
| One day too many | Both the start and end dates count when they are working days. |

## Tips

- Read a weekend string from Monday to Sunday: "0000011" means Saturday and Sunday off.
