# How to calculate the days remaining in the month in Excel

Subtract the date from the month end: `=EOMONTH(A2,0)-A2`.

**Excel:** `=EOMONTH(A2,0)-A2` (Every current version)

**Google Sheets:** the same formula works.

## Example

Sample data (row 1 is the header):

| A | B |
| --- | --- |
| Date | Days left |
| 2026-02-10 | |
| 2026-03-31 | |
| 2026-04-01 | |
| 2028-02-15 | |
| 2026-12-24 | |

Formula in B2, filled to B6: `=EOMONTH(A2,0)-A2`

Result: 18; 0; 29; 14; 7

## How it works

`EOMONTH(A2,0)` is the last day of the date's month, so subtracting the date leaves the days still to come. On the last day of the month the result is 0.

## Other ways

- `=DAY(EOMONTH(A2,0))-DAY(A2)`: The same result by subtracting day numbers.
- `=EOMONTH(A2,0)-A2+1`: Counts the date itself too, for "days left including today". (One more day.)

## Common mistakes

- The result can show as a date. Format the column as a number.
- With a time in A2 the result has a fraction. Use `INT(A2)`.

## Questions

**How do I count the working days left in the month?**

`=NETWORKDAYS(A2,EOMONTH(A2,0),holidays)`. It includes A2 when that is a working day.

**What share of the month has passed?**

`=DAY(A2)/DAY(EOMONTH(A2,0))`, formatted as a percentage.
