# How to count rows where every column is filled in Excel

Give COUNTIFS a "not blank" condition for each column: `=COUNTIFS(B2:B11,"<>",C2:C11,"<>",D2:D11,"<>")`.

**Excel:** `=COUNTIFS(B2:B11,"<>",C2:C11,"<>",D2:D11,"<>")` (Every current version)

**Google Sheets:** the same formula works.

## Example

Sample data (row 1 is the header):

| A | B | C | D | E | F |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Name | Email | Phone | Company | | Complete rows |
| Lena Park | lena@contoso.example | 555-0142 | Contoso | | |
| Omar Ruiz | omar@fabrikam.example | | Fabrikam | | |
| Noor Haddad | noor@litware.example | 555-0187 | Litware | | |
| Tom Becker | tom@northwind.example | 555-0119 | | | |
| Priya Shah | | | Adatum | | |
| Ines Lopez | ines@proseware.example | 555-0163 | Proseware | | |
| Jon Wells | jon@wingtip.example | 555-0108 | Wingtip | | |
| Mia Chen | mia@tailspin.example | 555-0175 | | | |
| Raj Iyer | raj@woodgrove.example | 555-0151 | Woodgrove | | |
| Sara Nilsen | sara@alpine.example | 555-0133 | Alpine | | |

Formula in G1: `=COUNTIFS(B2:B11,"<>",C2:C11,"<>",D2:D11,"<>")`

Result: 6

## How it works

`"<>"` on its own means "not equal to nothing", so it keeps cells that have something in them. With one such condition per column, COUNTIFS counts a row only when every column is filled. Four contacts are missing at least one field, which leaves 6 complete rows.

## Other ways

- `=SUMPRODUCT((B2:B11<>"")*(C2:C11<>"")*(D2:D11<>""))`: The same test with SUMPRODUCT, handy when you need to combine it with other array conditions.
- `=ROWS(B2:B11)-COUNTIFS(B2:B11,"<>",C2:C11,"<>",D2:D11,"<>")`: Counts incomplete rows: those missing at least one field. (Counts the 4 incomplete rows.)

## Common mistakes

- A cell with a single space looks empty but passes `"<>"`. Clean the data with TRIM if forms allow spaces.
- For many columns, COUNTIFS gets long. Use a helper column with `=COUNTBLANK(B2:D2)=0` and count the TRUEs.

## Questions

**How do I count rows that are completely empty?**

Use "" instead: `=COUNTIFS(B2:B11,"",C2:C11,"",D2:D11,"")`.

**How do I find which field is missing most often?**

Use COUNTBLANK per column: `=COUNTBLANK(B2:B11)`, and so on.
