# How to convert inches to feet and inches in Excel

Whole feet from INT, leftover inches from MOD: `=INT(B2/12)&"' "&MOD(B2,12)&""""` turns 71 into 5' 11".

**Excel:** `=INT(B2/12)&"' "&MOD(B2,12)&""""` (Every current version)

**Google Sheets:** the same formula works.

## Example

Sample data (row 1 is the header):

| A | B | C |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Player | Height (in) | Height |
| Ava | 64 | |
| Ben | 71 | |
| Cal | 75 | |
| Dee | 60 | |
| Eli | 69 | |

Formula in C2, filled to C6: `=INT(B2/12)&"' "&MOD(B2,12)&""""`

Result: 5' 4"; 5' 11"; 6' 3"; 5' 0"; 5' 9"

## How it works

There are 12 inches in a foot. `INT(B2/12)` is the whole number of feet (71 ÷ 12 = 5.9, so 5), and `MOD(B2,12)` is the inches left over (11). The `&` joins them with the foot and inch marks; `""""` is how a formula writes a single double quote.

## Other ways

- `=TRUNC(B2/12)&"' "&MOD(B2,12)&""""`: TRUNC gives the same whole feet for positive heights.

## Common mistakes

- The result is text, so it can't be summed or sorted numerically. Keep the inches column for calculations.
- With decimal inches, MOD returns decimals too, and rounding 11.6 gives 5' 12". Round the inches first: `=ROUND(B2,0)`.

## Questions

**How do I convert centimeters to feet and inches?**

Turn centimeters into inches first: `=INT(B2/30.48)&"' "&ROUND(MOD(B2/2.54,12),0)&""""`.

**How do I get decimal feet instead?**

Divide by 12: `=B2/12` gives 5.92 for 71 inches.
